Growing up in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island, Morgan spent much of his time outdoors, exploring the Cumberland forests through mountain biking, hiking and climbing. With a passion for adventure and discovering new places, he was drawn to TRU’s Adventure Guide program to turn his love for the outdoors into a career. What began as an interest in mountain guiding has since evolved into a passion for sea kayaking and surfing, opening the door to new opportunities and experiences. Now, Morgan is building the skills and confidence to pursue a career in sea kayak guiding, with hopes of travelling the world and exploring all seven continents along the way.
Tell us a little about yourself — where you’re from, what you’re passionate about, or anything else you’d like to share.
I grew up in the Comox Valley spending lots of time outdoors. The Cumberland forests are where I spent most of my youth either biking, hiking or climbing. I am always down for a road trip to explore the natural areas either on the island or around the world.
What drew you to this program, and what are you most looking forward to this year?
When I arrived in Kamloops, the entire Adventure faculty was very welcoming. It was very easy to make friends quickly due to the nature of the program.
Originally I came to the Adventure Guide program to become a mountain guide, but after trying everything the program has to offer, I found a passion for sea kayaking and surfing.
I am looking forward to my surf expedition in spring 2027, as well as challenging my skills in the next set of field courses in the winter semester.
What do you hope to do with your training after completing the program?
My goal after the program is to pursue a career in sea kayak guiding. I am hoping to travel the world and work in all sorts of places either kayaking or surfing. I have a goal to visit all seven continents – we’ll see how far I get!
