Indigenous Backcountry Training (IBT) is an organization founded by Adventure Studies alumnus Dylan Murray (’20). IBT focuses on backcountry skiing and avalanche awareness. Dylan is excited to announce a special initiative with Mammut, a company renowned for their high-performance adventure gear.
Empowering Indigenous Adventure Students

This effort supports Indigenous youth and young adults pursuing careers in outdoor exploration, safety, and leadership. By equipping these emerging leaders with Mammut’s cutting-edge technical gear, we are investing in their success and empowering them to thrive in the backcountry and beyond,” said Dylan.

Meet the students
Erin Rautenstrauch – Certificate student
Erin is passionate about backcountry safety, and the Pro 35 Removable Airbag 3.0 will give her the confidence to explore more challenging terrain. “An avalanche bag would greatly enhance my safety in the backcountry,” Erin says. “Being in nature offers me peace and a sense of connection, and this gear will help me explore untouched areas with more security.”
Frederic Carriere – Diploma student
A proud Métis from Manitoba, Frederic dreams of becoming an ACMG ski guide, and the Pro 35 Removable Airbag 3.0 will enhance his safety in the backcountry. “The right gear gives me peace of mind as I work towards my goal,” Frederic shares. “Growing up, adventure was a way to connect with my roots, and now I want to represent my people as I climb and explore the world.”
Denaya Bennett – Certificate student
