Meet Jaycee, a first year Adventure Studies student who finds grounding, joy, and identity in the outdoors. Based in Revelstoke, Jaycee spends her time trail running, skiing, and soaking up the sun—always happiest when surrounded by nature.

Tell us a little about yourself — where you’re from, what you’re passionate about, maybe a fun fact, or anything else you’d like to share.

I grew up in Armstrong, but have been spending my time in Revelstoke the last couple of years. I started trail running in Revy and I’ve always skied so being close to the hill is amazing.

I love to love and feel the sun on my face. To be with nature is so gratifying and it has been a constant in my life.

Fun fact: Playing music is my prized joy — the cello is my little baby. I started a band with my friends called Public Swim where I played bass and sang!

What drew you to this program, and what are you most looking forward to this year?

Over the last couple of years I’ve been wanting to involve myself with everything and anything outside as it has immensely improved my mental health.

I was drawn to the program because I wanted to facilitate a lifestyle around being active and sharing these experiences with people who don’t necessarily know how to get involved.

I’m really looking forward to ski touring this winter!

What do you hope to do with your training after completing the program?

I want to teach people and allow them to feel proud of themselves, as it grants them the ability to approach their identity with kindness.

What advice would you give to someone thinking about applying to Adventure Studies?

If you find your inner peace inside the security of the trees, then you should apply!

Thanks for sharing, Jaycee!
