We are thrilled to celebrate the achievements of Kai McGrady and Marcelo Figueiredo (2024 grads) who recently passed their ACMG Apprentice Hiking Guide (AHG) course this past September. This was a condensed course specifically designed for TRU Adventure students and students from other outdoor education programs.
“I felt well prepared for this exam after studying at TRU and being exposed to so many guides from the industry and the standards they set and ask from us. From guiding techniques to record keeping, I believe the Adventure Studies program set me up for success and it set the bar of where I should stand if I want to get professional accreditations.” – Marcelo
The course was five days in total, with a day hike to the Spray Lakes area around Canmore and a three-day backpacking trip in Kananaskis, both in Alberta. The group also went to Picklejar Lakes and the Misty Ridge area. The course involves off-trail navigation, backpacking skills, client care and more.
Congratulations to Kai and Marcelo. See you out in the mountains!
